King Charles Inn
Fit for a Queen and a King! The King Charles Inn has about the best location around Charleston, SC. It is nestled here, just one block from the premier shopping on King St. and one block in the other direction to the famed Market St. with horse drawn carriages and a bustling market. It is walking distance to South of Broad including Rainbow Row, Battery Park as well as Upper King with its up and coming restaurant scene. To have all these fantastic locations so close but still feel quiet and secluded, is a feat that the King Charles Inn has mastered.
We stayed at King Charles Inn for a long weekend staycation. When you live in a city as gorgeous as Charleston, SC, it’s always fun to getaway while staying close, and trust me, my list of places to eat and things to do in Charleston never runs dry. The King Charles Inn has a few enticing packages found here, however we were lucky enough to experience the Romance package! Let me walk you through this hotel and of course our weekend!
Walking into the Lobby we were greeted with someone waiting to open the door to the hotel and friendly staff eager to help us. They have a lower lobby and a quieter upper lobby that houses a nicely decorated area with multiple seating arrangements to accommodate different groups or sitting alone. This lobby is attached to an outdoor pool (you will need this in the summer)! There were already people using it in February (not me)! Also attached to the lobby, was the restaurant/bar called Brew. Our room was on the 3rd floor at the back of the building and it was quiet! We loved it!
When walking in to our King room, a lovely bottle of chilled champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and some local treats were waiting on us. Unforgettable! With the Romance Package, $100 dollar gift card is waiting for you with your choice of 3 top restaurants around town. We toasted to ourselves and The King Charles Inn before heading down to Brew for Happy Hour!
Happy Hour is from 4:30-5:30 and includes light bites to munch on and house wine and beer are $5 during this time. We met with some friends and enjoyed a drink outside on the patio soaking up all of the warm weather and Charleston vibes. We headed out to Hall’s Chophouse after a few pictures at the hotel of course. We sat at the high top tables at Hall’s which doesn’t require a reservation. We love Hall’s for that reason, when wanting the swanky feel but unable to get a reservation, the bar at Hall’s Chophouse is always a good option. We grabbed a quick drink and shared the Steak Martini (highly recommend) before heading over to O-ku.
O-ku on Friday has a killer happy hour at the bar and if you can get into the bar it’s well worth it. Just show up right when it opens! We ended up at the sushi bar as we were past the happy hour special and enjoyed sitting at the back of the building where the light was great for pictures and the noise was minimal.
After O-ku we went to Vintage Lounge which is very new on Upper King, it’s beautiful on the inside and has a nice outside patio, it started to get very busy after 10 which was our cue to head back to the hotel. We loved that our room was quiet and in fact, I thought they filtered white noise into the rooms that’s how quiet it seemed to us.
In the morning, we got up and had some of their complimentary coffee and ate breakfast at Brew. It’s nice to have a quick breakfast option in the hotel so you don’t have to fight the crowds. We walked around King St, Market St. then to East Bay stopping at the Vendue Rooftop to enjoy the view before heading to Blind Tiger where we sat outside and ate lunch. Blind Tiger has a killer outdoor area! We headed back to the hotel and sat by the pool while reading a book… can’t remember the last time I had time to do that??? We popped up to our room to get ready for a quick drink at Brew before dinner.
The King Charles Inn is located right across the street from one of the most sought after places to eat in Charleston, FIG (Food is Good). I have tried and failed 12 times to eat at the bar as I rarely plan ahead enough to make reservations. Well, since I was right across the street, we walked over and waited until they opened at 5… Can’t believe it, we finally got to eat there! We of course weren’t expecting to be able to get in so we just had some awesome appetizers before heading up Market to Wine and Company where we met some friends and had a gorgeous glass of wine.
Last morning of our staycation, we had breakfast at Brew and contemplated making them physically remove us from the hotel… but thought better of that mess and packed up our things. Check out isn’t until 11 so we were able to get out and walk in the morning while smelling the blooming trees all around Charleston. We stopped for a Hot Little Biscuit at Callies in the Market before grabbing our things and saying goodbye to The King Charles Inn and our wonderful weekend away!
