Alpacabag to Asheville

Alpaca Bag to Asheville

While I love living in Charleston, SC there is something to be said for the mountains of North Carolina and the feeling that it provides! Asheville, NC is one of those places where I love to visit at just a 4 hour drive from the coast.

Where to Stay:

I went to Asheville with one of my friends who met me there! We had a blast. We stayed at the cutest Bed and Breakfast and yes, they still exist and are amazing. I haven’t stayed at a B and B for quite some time, with the rise of airbnb, but it is alive and well and a perfect extension of Asheville’s charm.

We stayed at Cumberland Falls B and B and you can find them here in the Montford area of Asheville.  Cumberland Falls sits up on a slight hill making a stately entrance on 1 acre of land. There is plenty of parking and a fire pit and Koi pond at the back of the house with a beautiful path and pineapple fountain at the front of the house. The owners, Angela and David, moved from California where they ran an adventure company including kayaking and hiking in the La Jolla area. Currently, they have 6 rooms all with attached bathrooms! The rooms are perfectly cute and just the right amount of space. Oh, and did I mention, they have wine, soda, beer, water and snacks all complimentary and don’t forget that breakfast is included! This ends up being quite the steal, plus you can walk downtown and back…. that makes for a perfect location.  P.S., their weekdays are more available to book and are also cheaper! Definitely worth it if you can make it there during the week. We just loved Angela and obviously enjoyed our wonderful stay! Look for some pictures below to see more about this charming house!

What to do:

Day 1:

We ventured to the new Rooftop Bar Hemingway’s Cuba  a new Cuban infusion restaurant with a glorious rooftop and fun cocktails and appetizers. If you want to go when it’s not too busy, head there on the weekday. Get there about an hour before sunset to grab your ultimate seat and sit back, relax and enjoy the sunset. We had the plantain chips and the empanadas which is one of my favorite food groups.

We then headed to Asheville Brewing Co to try out some beer because you haven’t been to Asheville until you go to a brewery and Asheville Brewing Co. never disappoints. They have pizzas by the slice the size of my head or bigger with lots of fun varieties! Pizza and beer, I need you to name a better pair…go ahead… I’ll wait! It’s quite amazing and we loved the Perfect Day and the Ninja Porter… yum!

Day 2:

The following morning  after breakfast at the B and B we walked the Catawba Falls Trail which is about a 30 minute drive from downtown Asheville and a moderate almost 3 mile walk.  It is up a hill with a few rock skips to cross but basically a leisure path there and back. It was well worth the walk to see the amazing falls! Just keep going up! There is a lower falls and an upper falls and the upper falls are worth it!

Headed back to town and made a stop in West Asheville’s up and coming area; sure to delight! We stopped at New Belgium for a quick beer because we were in Asheville and that’s what you do! We then waddled into White Duck Taco (see what I did there) and had a few tacos and a margarita before heading back to Cumberland B and B for a rest and to get ready for the night!

We headed off to the Gourmet Chip Company because… well do I need a reason? We had a great beer and chips with…. bacon and cheese on top! Yep, I’ll take some bacon with my chips please! We then went to Curate for a Sangria, one white and one red and then off to a the AC rooftop for sunset! It was gorgeous of course but unfortunately their front area facing the sunset was booked for a private event, but we were able to still see the sunset from the back deck. We then headed to Limones. Limones was packed but we were able to snag some seats at the bar and some appetizers and drinks. One last stop included Burial beer to end the night with a couple of beers.

Asheville never disappoints I highly recommend it for a weekend trip or better yet a during the week trip as it is much easier to get into restaurants during the week. Plus the rates are cheaper for most places too!

As always if you have questions or think I should go back and go someplace new, let me know! Also all my cute clotes came from Nest AVL! Go check them out!

Cheers,

Barbara
